The high levels of poverty in the country’s most at risk areas, and the lack of protective structures and services, means that the impact of landslides on people’s lives and livelihoods is also greater. The number of people killed by flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall over the weekend in Nepal has reached 193 while recovery and rescue work has been steeped up. Many of the deaths were in the Kathmandu, Dolakha, Sinduli and many more which got heavy rainfall was flooded.
Nepalese people are affected by landslides mental health effects due to loss of family, property, livestock or crops. Landslides also greatly impact the health system and essential services, such as water, electricity or communication lines.
